General FAQs
Travel & Packing
Do students need to bring their instruments?
Yes, students should bring their marching band instruments to all camps (both day camps and our residential camp).

Is equipment provided for color guard or percussion students?
Drum Majors: Color guard equipment will not be provided, and will not need to be brought. Percussionists should bring sticks plus snares, tenor drums, or mallets. Keyboards, a bass drum, and cymbals will be provided.
Student Leaders: All students should bring the instrument/equipment needed for marching fundamentals.
Student Life
What does the daily schedule look like?
For day camps, most days will operate from 9:00AM-8:30PM. Most residential camp days begin with breakfast at 7:30AM and lights out at 11:00PM. A specific schedule for each event will be sent to participants approximately 2 weeks before the beginning of camp.
What types of educational experiences will students be exposed to at this camp?
Drum Majors
Students will learn skill sets that apply to the role of a Drum Major in a high school marching band, including: conducting fundamentals, score study, musicianship, salutes, marching fundamentals, and leadership. All students will have opportunities to build relationships with other students from around the country in similar roles. Additionally, Drum Majors will conduct a live ensemble multiple times and receive feedback from staff. They will also receive private lessons on show music.
Student Leaders
All Drum Majors and Student Leaders will participate in leadership sessions geared toward values-centered student leadership, including team-building, goal-setting, and music/visual rehearsal techniques. Students will work with their school cohort (including Drum Majors) to develop a cohesive, goal-oriented leadership team.
What is appropriate attire for the week of camp?
Students should dress comfortably for summer weather and semi-active activities. Note that some camp sessions will take place outside and will include marching, so please bring shoes that are appropriate for this activity. Summer weather is typically hot and humid, so make sure to bring water, sunscreen, rain gear, and bug spray.
How are students supervised throughout the week?
There are a variety of staff members who will be supervising students at camp. In addition to our instructional staff, we also have a counseling staff that supervises students during social activities and in the residential halls (for our full week camp).
What are the expectations for student behavior at camp?
The Crossroads staff is committed to creating an uplifting, respectful environment where all participants feel accepted and valued. We uphold the same expectations for students, and disrespectful behavior (such as bullying, harassment, etc.) will not be tolerated. How will parents be contacted if there is an emergency at camp?
Parents will be notified via the emergency contact phone number listed on the student’s medical paperwork.
Closing Ceremonies
What are Closing Ceremonies?
Closing Ceremonies are a celebration of all that our students have achieved at camp, as well as an opportunity for students to present the progress they have made. They typically take place in the evening on the last day of a camp. Specific information regarding the location of Closing Ceremonies will be provided at check-in.
Can parents attend?
Yes! Family, friends, and directors are all encouraged to attend Closing Ceremonies.
How long will Closing Ceremonies last?
For day camps, Closing Ceremonies will last approximately 1 hour for Drum Majors and 30 minutes for Student Leaders. For the residential camp, Closing Ceremonies will last approximately 2 hours for Drum Majors and 30 minutes for Student Leaders.
Payment & Registration
What is the latest date for enrollment?
The deadline to register for any given camp is 14 days before the first date of the camp. Registration prices will increase by $50 after the deadline. All fees and paperwork must be submitted within 7 days before the first date of the camp. You can register for a camp here.
What is included in the camp fee?
For day camps, the camp fee covers 2 meals a day—lunch and dinner— for the duration of the camp, all instructional and facility costs, and a camp t-shirt.
Are there any scholarship opportunities for students?

What is the camp’s refund policy?
Refunds for the camp are generally not offered except on a case-by-case basis in the most extenuating circumstances.
Medical
Can the camp accommodate students with allergies or dietary restrictions?
For day camps, lunch and dinner are provided by the host school. For the residential camp, Bethel University Dining Services serves three meals a day. Meals typically consist of some sort of entree (chicken, pasta, sandwiches, etc.), veggies, fruits, and desserts. Anyone with special needs, allergies, etc., should let us know and consider bringing their own food. Please bring water bottles each day.
How are student medications handled?
Students are responsible for handling and administering their prescribed medications throughout the camp. All medications should be listed on the health form (submitted at least 7 days before camp).

How can I keep in touch with what’s happening at camp?

Who teaches students throughout the week?

Do students need to bring any money?
Students are not required to bring any money, however, they may if they wish to purchase snacks, souvenirs, or items at the bookstore (for the residential camp).
Liability Note:
Liability insurance is provided by Crossroads Music Events, LLC, for all students while they are at camp. This does not extend to travel to and from the event or stays at hotels or other sites before, after, or during the event. Day camp host students are covered by their school corporation as they would be in any other activities on campus.
Residential Camp Specific Questions (Bethel University)
Where will students stay during the week?
During the week of our residential Drum Major Clinic, students stay in residential halls at Bethel University. For more information, see the question below.
How does housing at camp work? Will students have a roommate?
For our Residential Camp, students should be housed with one other person in residence hall rooms. Counselors will be located on each floor of the residence halls for safety and assistance. What about cars/parking during camp?
Those students driving to camp can keep their cars on campus but need to obtain a parking pass upon check-in. Your vehicle should remain on campus for the duration of the camp unless you are a commuting student. No resident students are allowed to drive their vehicles while the camp is in session during the week.
Are bedding and linens included?
Bethel University provides pillows and mattresses, but sheets and pillowcases are not provided. Remember to pack Twin XL-size sheets, towels, and toiletries.
What is included in the camp fee?
For our residential students, the camp fee covers 3 meals a day for the duration of the camp at the campus cafeteria, housing for 3 nights, all instructional and facility costs, and a camp t-shirt. Meals are not included for commuter students, but can be individually purchased at the cafeteria.
