OUR STORY

Building tomorrow's leaders today

Over twenty years ago, our founder, Dr. Doug Keiser, had a vision for a new kind of Drum Major camp: one that gave students real-life face-to-face instruction teaching them to be leaders of their bands, musically, organizationally, and socially both on and off the field. Unique from the very beginning, our camp has improved and evolved every year to offer students an even more individualized and personal experience.

DR. DOUG KEISER

Camp Founder and Director

Dr. Doug Keiser founded the Crossroads Drum Major and Leadership Clinic in 1991 to educate and empower young leaders.  With over thirty five years' experience as a music educator, Dr. Keiser and the staff he leads have made a positive impact on the lives of thousands of students.  He recently retired from the music faculty at Indiana State University where he conducted the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Basketball Bands.  The Marching Sycamores annually had standing invitations to perform for hundreds of thousands of fans at Indianapolis Colts games, Brickyard 400 races, Bands of America Grand Nationals Festivals, and the Indiana State Marching Band Finals.

Formerly, Keiser was the Drum Major at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he was also a Regents Scholar and Presser Scholar. He later attended The University of Iowa, where he wrote seven shows for the Hawkeye Marching Band that appeared on national television.  His doctorate is in Instrumental Conducting from Michigan State University.  In recent years, Dr. Keiser was awarded the A. Frank Martin award from the National Council of Kappa Kappa Psi for significant contributions to the band profession and was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame for the University of Nebraska-Omaha School of Music.

Doug and Brenda Keiser have three children who are all pursuing doctorates in their chosen fields.  Andrew recently graduated with a master's degree in conducting from the Schwob School of Music and is pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the Frost School of Music in Miami.  Evan is a recent graduate of the IU School of Medicine and will be a resident at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Allison is a candidate for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis.
